This is What a Librarian Looks Like by Kyle Cassidy

This book needs to be in all libraries. I deserves to be noticed and I think that this was easily one of the best reads for me this year. See review here.

The Nightingale Circus by Ioana Visan

I really enjoyed this novella, as I do with Ioana Visan’s work. I want to read Broken People so I can find out more about the circus and the people that use it as their safe haven. See review here.

Supergirl: Rebirth #1 by Steve Orlando

This was a different and fresh view of Supergirl for me. I enjoyed this short piece and I’m definitely considering reading more about her. See Review here.

Secret Wars #0 by Jonathan Hickman

It’s about time I started this event. I think everything was summed up pretty well in this piece. Review to come soon.

Secret Wars #1 by Jonathan Hickman

I thought this was a pretty good start to the whole event. Definitely got me even more intrigued. Review to come soon.

Then Comes Love by Lindsay Detwiler

A cute, funny, quick read. I really liked this book and enjoyed it tremendously. See review here.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

I’ve had this book for a few years and I took way to long to actually read it. I really liked it and I want to read the rest of The Giver Quartet. See review here.

Time in a Bottle by Kathleen D. Tresemer

I had a few issues with this book mainly because the proper trigger warnings weren’t applied but I really did enjoy the writing. See review here.

The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom

This was definitely one of the better books I’ve read this year. I can’t believe I took so long to get to it. See review here.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

And so the reread continues! I loved this read a lot more the second time around and seeing my babies growing up is always a pleasure. See review here.

My Week and Happenings (#14)

This was a good week for me. Maybe not perfect but if I go looking out for perfect all the time, I’m going to miss the other good things that come my way. Also, I just hit 200 followers! Thank you so much!!!

Yesterday was Star Wars Day and I thought that I’d spend by day sleeping in between my Star Wars marathon. I ended up falling asleep halfway through Empire Strikes Back and that put an end to the marathon all together. My friend woke me up at 3pm and we went to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and I won’t spoil anything because that’s mean, but that movie was amazing! Marvel is really killing the game lately and I’m here for this party to be honest. I ended up wearing a Darth Vader t-shirt I bought at Comic Con last year. It says: ‘Your lack of retro-ness disturbs me’. There was absolutely zero representation for Star Wars Day and I was not impressed.

I decided to drag my friend to the bookstore to find out what the deal was with the late stocking of ACOWAR and lo and behold, all the staff were wearing a ‘May the Fourth be with you’ t-shirt. I literally yelled: Finally! People I can relate to.

Anyway, it turns out they had just gotten in their shipment of ACOWAR so I ended up squealing like a demented loon in the middle of the store. They also had Clockwork Angel in stock which was a surprise, since they usually only have Clockwork Prince. I ended up walking out a very happy bookworm. One thing I forgot to do was caress Lilly Singh’s book, but oh well.

Posts that went up this week:

I stopped believing in ‘lucky days’ and all that stuff because I have this whole opinion of it that I won’t get into here but I feel like yesterday was the best day I’ve had in a while. April was a great month for me, and May started out so good. I hope the rest of the month goes as great. *knock on wood*

When I posted a picture of my newly acquired book to Instagram, Lindsay Cummings (author of The Murder Complex series, The Balance Keepers series and Zenith- with Sasha Alsberg) liked and commented on my post! I’ve been a book reviewer for about 3 years now and I still get so excited every time I talk to an author. I honestly wish that this reaction never goes away one day because it’s pure excitement and I think that’s awesome.

I did not post a review yesterday because…I fell asleep before I finished the book (This is what a Librarian Looks Like) and as I said, I went out last night. I finished it this morning and I really liked it. I don’t know if I’d read it again but I definitely want to buy it so it can be on display in my library one day. I’m thinking of having a shelf dedicated to libraries and books that celebrate reading and books in general.

This post is just me going on about yesterday. If you knew me in real life you wouldn’t be surprised. I sleep way too much than is typically needed and when I am awake I’m either drinking tea or stressing about finishing a book instead of actually finishing the book.

What yesterday taught me is that even though you have work knocking you out from every side, sometimes it’s good to just step out of the ring and take a break. Forget all your worries and relax. I understand for some, this is not possible but every free moment you get…cherish it and make the most out of it.

Thanks for tuning in,
Caron xx

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Oh don’t get me started on this book. I’ll just talk continuously about how perfect it was. SJM is a queen that knows how to break my heart and put it together again all in a blink of an eye. See review here.

Dream Me by Kathryn Berla

Okay, this book was hella confusing. Like what? Who? Huh? I can’t deny that I actually liked the writing style though. Review to come soon.

Revival Vol.2: Live Like You Mean It by Tim Seeley

I enjoyed this volume so much more than the first one and it’s official, I’m addicted to this series. I love zombie stories, and this is one with a twist. And a good one at that. See review here.

Spider-Gwen Vol.0: Most Wanted? by Jason Latour

By the time I finished this, I really wanted to read the Spider-verse and see what all the fuss is about. I’ve got to stop reading comics backwards. Great start though! See review here.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Words cannot express how much I love this series! And every time I watch a video on Cassie online, or see her around the social medias, I’m even more convinced that she’s amazing and I need to meet her one day. This reread though! I’m living for it! See review here.

The Auctor Trilogy by T.R. Wolf

A few plot holes here and there but I hope they’ll be filled in as the series continues. Not a bad start and I’m eager to see where this goes. See review here.

The Flash Vol.1: Lightning Strikes Twice by Joshua Williamson

Joshua Williamson is quickly becoming one of my favourite comic book writers. I enjoyed this volume immensely and I look forward to reading Volume 2. See review here.

Godshaper #1 by Simon Spurrier

I found this comic by accident and thank goodness I did. The idea for this plot is so different and amazing, I look forward to seeing where this story goes. Review to come soon.

The Totally Awesome Hulk Vol.1 by Greg Pak

This was a pretty good start and I liked it. I do feel like a lot still needs to be touched on. Looking forward to continuing this. Review to come soon.

XODUS by K.J. McPike

The only thing I found worthwhile about this book was the writing style. I didn’t care much about anything else. See review here.

Among the Flames by Shelby K. Morrison

I waited two years for this book and as I was reading it, I totally forgot that fact. I loved going back into this world and I look forward to continuing this series. See review here.

Sex Criminals Vol.2: Two Worlds, One Cop by Matt Fraction

Enjoyed this so much more than the first volume. I’m glad we got to see Jon’s side a bit more and that we delved into his head…even though it was kinda sad. Review to come soon.

Adventure Time: Candy Capers by Yuko Ota

This was only my second Adventure Time comic series but so far this is my favourite. Marceline is so awesome! Review to come soon.

The Power of the Unseen by Marcel Borgi

I started out liking this book so much but as I read more it all went sour. I’ll talk about this more in my review. My stand at the moment is 50/50. Review to come soon.

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy If This Is Home Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1) How to Mend a Broken Heart

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Robin Wasserman

It was a battle waiting for this book. November wouldn’t come soon enough and then it came and I couldn’t even read the book immediately. There were parts that I didn’t love so much and there were parts that blew me away. Of course I’d be eager to read a book completely centered around my favourite TMI character. See review here.

If This Is Home by Kristine Scarrow

This book flew by so fast I’m not entirely sure what went on but I did enjoy it. I definitely wouldn’t mind reading more works by this author. See review here.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

I had been waiting so long for this book and halfway through I started feeling sad because my excitement wasn’t as big anymore but of course Cassie brought me back with a wonderful twist. Review to come soon.

How to Mend a Broken Heart by Anna Mansell

This book is described as a heart wrenching read but I didn’t feel that way. I guess I didn’t go into it with all my emotions. See review here.

…And That’s a Wrap | 2016

Well would you look at that. 2016’s over. This year went fast yea? I’m not just imagining that I think. As I was writing this post I forgot that it’s my birthday on this day. Another post reminded me and then…it clicked. So I’m now 22…*Taylor Swift sings in the background* (I’ve been waiting for this moment since I was 17)

Obsessions of 2016

  • The Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert
  • Les Miserables in general
  • Cheese Balls. No lie. I would eat this for breakfast, lunch, dinner and as a snack in between if I could.
  • SuperwomanVlogs. I’ve been a fan since high school but I did a thing and went back to the beginning of her vlogging. That’s love man.
  • Shadowhunters
  • Todrick Hall’s Straight Outta Oz visual album. It’s so beautiful. I cry every time I hear Lions and Tigers and Bears.
  • Bob Marley’s music…’nuff said
  • …I mentioned Les Miserables right?

Favourite Book of the Year

And the winner is…

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I fell in love with this book from the first page. SJM never fails to impress me.

My Goodreads 2016 Year in Books

Motto of the Year

Well it wasn’t really a motto, it was more of something I’d tell myself so that I wouldn’t chicken out of it. It’s ‘2016’s the year for risks

I’m not an adventurous person and I don’t like change and I can’t stand if my routine is messed up but this year if I felt like doing something, I’d go ahead and do it. Step out of my comfort zone a bit.

Changes Since the Last Few Years

During high school I decided that I wanted to tour Europe (I planned it so that it would happen after I completed my Masters) but I cancelled that because of my anxiety and my hermit-ness. That tour is back on! Yay for progress!! 😀 So ONE DAY…I’ll be going to London- always wanted to go on the London Eye (I ADORE ferris wheels-says the girl that has a fear of heights), and I want to go to Rome and Athens because I love Ancient Greek & Roman mythology. And of course, Amsterdam because why not. I really do want to see the Anne Frank house though so that’d be a bonus. Germany should be added to the list too. What list? Let’s make one now.

Please observe…a list:

  • London – Let us see the world! Or at least a portion of it over a vast distance
  • Cardiff – I just want to be in the place where Doctor Who was filmed
  • Rome (1)
  • Athens (2) –These two…totally Rick Riordan’s fault. So thanks, I guess
  • Berlin – Time to check out that wall. (you guys know how I feel about WWII related stuff)
  • Amsterdam – Same, WWII stuff. Reading Anne Frank’s diary really put things into perspective. Like, other books talk about the damages the war caused and it’s always about violence…Anne spoke about how even with the messed up shizz going on outside, they were still trying to live.
  • Wiltshire – Those stones intrigue me

Favourite Quote of the Year

“He made me love him without looking at me.” ~ Charlotte Brontë (Jane Eyre)

Random Happenings

I don’t watch movies often because I prefer TV Shows but this year I’ve been catching up on movies that have been out for years and seeing what the fuss was all about. Most of them were watched because of my Movie vs Book segment.

A few of them:

  • V for Vendetta (OMG, I can’t believe I was reluctant to watch this)
  • Angels & Demons as well as The Da Vinci Code
  • The Passion of the Christ (I just couldn’t with this movie. No thank you. Reading about the pain is one thing…watching it is something else)
  • The Maze Runner (Loved it so much better than the book. 10/10 would recommend)
  • Les Misèrables – I don’t think I need to say anything here

I decided to get back into K-drama because why not? I re-watched Boys Over Flowers and I cried, as I expected to. I don’t know why but when the supposed jerk of a book/show suddenly proves that he cares (only happens with guys for me), I get all emotional and start crying. And I’ve started Pinocchio and that is a whole lot of drama over there.

The Trailer Intrigued Me

For 2016 movie releases.

  • The BFG by Roald Dahl
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  • Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling
  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
  • The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
  • The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
  • Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
  • The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
  • Inferno by Dan Brown

I watched How to be Single without knowing it was a book. Enjoyed it a lot though.

I Leave You With These Words…

Don’t give up. No matter what. Don’t give up and don’t worry. You may not know where the road is going to lead you but I’m telling you now that it’s okay. There’s no such thing as a sure thing so if you’re confused, that’s cool. If you don’t know what you want from life or what life wants from you, continue. Go with the flow. It’s all you can do to keep the ball rolling. No matter how many times life, people, things try to throw you off course, let them try. But Don’t. Give. Up!

Thanks for the fairly good year! I hope you all have an amazing 2017.

3008  Klaus  Champions (2016-) #1

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I took forever to get to this book and it took me a while to finish but I enjoyed it immensely. The movie is one of my favourites and I can’t wait to experience the story visually again. Review to come soon.

A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin

I took very long to finish this book and I felt as if I had overcome a huge obstacle when I turned the final page. This wasn’t my favourite in the series but I did enjoy it.

Klaus by Grant Morrison

I may not be crazy over Christmas but I do try to read something here and there to keep a little bit of the spirit alive. I loved how this comic was executed. See review here.

A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin

Finally!! These five books are finished. This was a long 3 years. I didn’t miss these characters while reading AFFC because I read them interchangeably. See link for how to do that here.

Champions #1 by Mark Waid

I couldn’t wait till next year to read this comic so I picked it up while listening to some music. I loved everything about this! It’s so new but so much was learned. I need more. Review to come soon.

Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code (Artemis Fowl, #3) Prodigy (Legend, #2) Inkheart The Optimist's Handbook: A Companion to Hope; The Pessimist's Handbook: A Companion to Despair Jane Eyre

The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer

I’m slowly making my way through this series. I liked this book a lot more than I did The Arctic Incident. I’m actually excited to read The Opal Deception and maybe this time I won’t leave a year between each book.

Prodigy by Marie Lu

I barely remembered anything that happened in Legend but I know I liked it enough to want to continue the trilogy. This book was really good but it’s the ending that made me really want to pick up Champion.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

544 pages ya’ll! I think this is the biggest book I’ve finished this year. I loved this book so much. I’m still on the fence about whether I’ll review this or not but I guess we’ll see. Btw, the movie has absolutely nothing on this book.

The Optimist/Pessimist Handbook: A Companion to Hope/Despair by Naill Edworthy & Petra Cramsie

This was a strange book and I enjoyed parts of it. It’s not my usual go-to read but I had it and thought I should give it a go.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

My favourite book. This has been confirmed, by me, the one and only. I can’t wait till I read this again but I think I’ll put some time in between before I pick it up again.
