I’m Taking a Break

As you can see from the title, I’ll be taking a break. I know I just came back from a hiatus that lasted from mid-2016 to the end of the year. I also realise that I just started a new blogging schedule and this break can’t come at a worse time.

Thing is, as important as my blog is to me, I have other important things to focus on as well i.e. my studies and my life.

My blog helps with my mental health but I don’t think this outlet is going to help me when I’m stressing about deadlines and whether or not I’m doing well enough to pass. I have to prioritise, you know.

In saying that, I’m sad to be stepping away but it’s what I need to do if I want to excel in achieving my goals.

Any posts that go up while I’m gone were scheduled beforehand and I don’t think I’ll be scheduling any more for the moment. I won’t be reviewing novels/comic books for the foreseeable future and I’ve already updated my review policy.

Good luck to those currently writing exams and happy reading,

See you when I get back,
Caron xx

My Week and Happenings (#16)

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day and a good day was had by all. Just kidding. A good day was had though. My mom worked that day so we picked her up from work and took her out to dinner. My sister made cinnamon rolls, which was cool. I swear, my obsession with those things are gonna kill me one day.

For the first time in a long time, I finished a review book days before the posting date. I was so proud of myself. Of course, I only wrote the review the day of but as I said in my review: I needed a few days to collect my thoughts.

I’ve been feeling so bad this past week but lately I’ve been motivated to work so I’m fighting through it. The editing of my stories are coming along nicely. I’m not even close to being done but I’m taking it one chapter at a time.

Posts that went up this week:

  • The Giver by Lois Lowry review
  • RST: My Mom and JKR
  • Sex Criminals Vol.2: Two Worlds, One Cop by Matt Fraction review
  • Time in a Bottle by Kathleen D. Tresemer review
  • Movie/TV Show vs. Book (#23)

I re-organised my bookshelves…yes, again. I loved the order it was in before (series on a separate shelf and the others sorted between Read and Unread in alphabetical order) but I want them all in the display cabinet where it’ll be safe from the dust. It’s summer now and the sun is so harsh. Gotta protect my babies.

I finally finished watching The Scorch Trials! One thing about me that not many people know: I will watch a movie over a span of days. I took about a month to watch The Scorch Trials. It’s not because I hate the movie I’m watching, it’s the 2 hours that I have to sit there and I can’t take it. I have a bit of a short attention span.

I just finished both the 2-hour Supernatural season finale and Grey’s Anatomy and people, I’m in a state of shock. Dare I say it. I am shook. My heart has been ripped out of my chest and been thrown to the wolves. Not so much for Grey’s but eh. It’s good that The Flash season finale wasn’t this week. I’d have been six feet under by now.

I’m currently playing a game of Review Roulette. I’m reading both The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom and ACOWAR by SJM. Whichever I finish first will be Monday’s review. I know The Time Keeper is pretty tiny but it has that small book, short chapter thing going on and it annoys me.

I’ll now go and either catch up on my other shows or read a bit. We’ll see how the day goes.

Thanks for tuning in,

My Week and Happenings #13

My sleeping schedule was so messed up this week I felt like sh*t the entire time. Apart from me sleeping 12 hours during the day and staying up all night, I’ve been reading. I started this book- The Power of the Unseen by Marcel Borgi- and I’m loving it. I expect the review to be up next week.

On Doctor Who: I’m actually liking Bill. I honestly thought I wouldn’t like her but she’s quite good. We’re only 2 episodes in and I’m loving this season so far.

Posts that went up this week:

I finished two comics in one day and I would’ve started a third but I kinda passed out. I have yet to write the reviews for those but it’ll happen as soon as I find the energy.

Today was a good day. We celebrated, we partied, we laughed. Happiness all around. I still feel like death has come over me but that’s because I’m super tired. I hope I’ll manage to finish at least two more books this weekend before my Wrap Up post is uploaded.

Another thing to look forward to: ACOWAR is being released on Tuesday. I hope I get it as soon as it comes out. I want to avoid ALL spoilers.

Well, there you go. A pretty short post but as I said, I’ve been sleeping all week. I swear, it’s this heat. I don’t want to do anything because I’m constantly tired.

Thanks for tuning in,

My Week and Happenings (#10)

Ah! We’re at no. 10. We’ve been doing this for 10 weeks…maybe not consecutively but still. We’re here. We’ve arrived.

Let’s see, what happened this week? I’ve been working on that newly reformed schedule I mentioned in last week’s post. I’m all set for the Movie/TV Show vs. Book posts up in to May except for next week’s as I must still watch 13 Reasons Why. I didn’t feel like starting a new series at the moment, so I watched the first 8 minutes then stopped. I heard that it’s pretty good though. I trust Netflix (probably more than I should) because any show I watched that’s been a Netflix original series, I’ve loved. Let’s hope 13 Reasons Why doesn’t disappoint because I may not have loved the book but I didn’t dislike it either.

I’m still reading City of Bones…I know, I’m starting to think I have a problem. I’m reading it a bit faster because with all these other books I have to read I need to add City of Ashes to the list as well because I heard that Season 2B is based on that book.

I asked in a poll the other day which book I should read next (of my owned physical copies) and I gave the options: The Giver, The Graveyard Book and The Time Keeper and I got 24 votes for The Giver and 8 each for the others. I’ve only read the introduction so far but Law and Order: SVU has been keeping me busy. I just started season 2 yesterday.

My review for An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld by Cassandra Clare and Cassandra Jean went up in the week. See it here.

My first RST in the new schedule slot also went up this week. It’s about Beauty and the Beast. See here. I swear, I’ll try not to throw out so many Beauty and the Beast Posts out there but I’m not entirely sorry as it is my favourite and I’m probably going to read as many retellings that I find interesting. Keep a look out for my review of ACOMAF coming in the next few weeks.

Apart from that I’m just reading, reading, reading. I don’t even want to go anywhere because I’m so excited about finally having a solid schedule and working on becoming a regular blogger that I’m completely comfortable staying home. Try explaining that to my parents. They think this is a joke.

My plans for today include a photoshoot I don’t want to be a part of (I don’t like taking photos…hence my sparse personal Instagram account) in the desert. A BBQ…that I’m probably going to distance myself from. I’m going to be honest here and say that I see socialising as distractions from my reading. I want to be at least 3 weeks ahead of schedule at all times and I don’t want to end up stressing.

Not much went on this week, so that’s about it.

Thanks for tuning in,
Caron xx

My Week and Happenings (#9)

I’ve been thinking these past two weeks and I’ve decided to make some changes. I needed some organisation and stability in my life and I started working on achieving that.

I’ve mentioned in an earlier post that my blog is my ‘escape’, my place to be who and what I want and since I’m virtually surrounded by people who understand and share my passion, I can’t allow outside forces to take away one of the few things that keeps me sane. These past few weeks I’ve been slacking in my reading, planning posts and of course, writing these weekly updates. I’m working on changing that.

Book reviews that went up: The Sword of Summer | Mia Goes Fourth | The Impaler’s Revenge

Last week wasn’t a good week for me but I try not to dwell on the past so I won’t talk about it. What happened this week though is a different matter. I decided to reorganise my bookshelves…again and changed it back to how I had it a few months ago when I did my Bookshelf Tour. I’m not entirely happy with where I placed my two single bookshelves but since I started using my desk more I have no choice (if I could get this ugly sofa out of my room that would help).

I did a search the other day and I found out that there’ll be a book fair in a city an hour or so away from me so I’ll be going, come hell or high water. I’ve never been to a book fair before but the pictures in the gallery look a lot like a Comic Con layout, which I think is cool.

There’s this huge Public Library in Dubai that I’ve never been to so I’ll be visiting there soon as well. It looks so colourful from the outside and I can only imagine what the inside looks like. A friend and I found this used bookstore a few months ago and I’ve been dying to go back there but since it’s so far, that’s not always possible. I keep forgetting to write a post about that day but I will soon!

Some- most- of the changes I want to make are blog related. I’ve been very lax when it comes to posts and my schedule. So far I upload twice a week, Mondays and Fridays, and I’d like to change that and be more active. Hopefully over the next few months I can bring this idea to light and establish myself even more as a Book Blogger.

I’ve brought back my RST (Random Story Time), Expected Releases as well as the Movie/TV Show vs. Book posts and I’m okay with them but not entirely pleased. With new book adaptations coming out almost every year plus the 100+ I have on my list I figure that it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to upload a new post every week so that’ll start soon. I’m changing the RST days to Tuesdays and bringing back the Comic Book Wednesdays. I’ll be working on catching up and scheduling posts so that I can be ahead. I’ve made a posting schedule so you can view that here.

I thought I was serious before but that’s nothing compared to how I feel now. I don’t want to play around anymore and if there happens to be days when I’m not feeling to good I want to be rest assured that posts have already been scheduled so I could take a day or two to collect myself.

Good things that happened this week: I finally watched Beauty and the Beast and I loved it as I knew I would. How to be a Bawse by Lilly Singh was published and I’m so happy for her. I’ve heard from those that’ve already read it that it’s amazing! My cousins arrived yesterday and they’ll be here for two weeks.

My Wrap-Up also just went up so check that out here.

I’m hoping these next few weeks go really well for me.

Thanks for tuning in,
Caron xx

Reading Goal for 2017: Complete

Screen Shot 2017-03-18 at 11.42.17 PM

Yes! Victory is mine. Mine, I tell you!

I set my goal for 20 this year because I didn’t know what my year was going to look like. I still don’t know so I’ll be leaving the goal as is and won’t be increasing the number. I want to continue reading without the constant reminder that there’s a challenge I signed up for. I want the freedom to read at my leisure so that’s what I’m going to do.

See my reading list of 2017 here.

I feel like a bit of a cheat because about 5 of these books were either sneak peeks, novellas or short stories. I know that I don’t need to feel this way but I’ll add a few more reads just to give myself some peace of mind.

I’m probably going to be reading another 30 or so books before the year’s up as I have a ton of review books to get to and I’m trying not to disappoint authors as many of them rely on reviewers to get their books out there.

My favourite book that I’ve read so far this year was An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters and Denizens of Downworld with Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy taking up the second place. I’m currently reading 3 books and I should be starting another review book soon.

To those who have completed their reading goal, congrats. Good luck to those who are on this awesome journey and for some who are considering joining, please do. It’s never too late.

Don’t forget to have fun reading.

My Week and Happenings #8

Back again with yet another odd week. Not bad, but I’ve been thinking more about what I want from myself and that acceptance is an important thing.

I’m used to thinking very negatively and I had to basically train myself out of that but sometimes those negative thoughts seep through and once it’s there I can’t get rid of it. That’s why I’ve decided to just accept things as they come, in the sense of the Serenity Prayer- ‘God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.’ You know how it goes. I panic and I stress and maybe I can’t help the stressing but I can at least control some portion of my life that the things that seem impossible won’t mean the end of the world in my head. Does that make sense? Yea, for me neither.

Enough of that morbid stuff. On to the more pleasing events of my week. I finally managed to watch Logan on Sunday and it was amazing! There were tears in my eyes and I so want to watch it again. I’d rate it a 11/10 would recommend. Beauty and the Beast premiered yesterday and I’m probably going to watch it either this weekend or early next week. It depends on my mood and whether I’m good to go. I wrote a post about why Beauty and the Beast is my favourite fairytale so you can go check that out here.

Speaking of posts, I’ve decided to bring back the Movie/TV Show vs. Book segment (New post just went up- it’s for A Series of Unfortunate Events. See here). There are so many books that are being made into movies and series and a whole lot of them that’ve been out for a while so I figured I’d dive in those a bit more. Besides, this is a good thing for me. Because of this segment I have found so many new books which is not too good for my already huge TBR but I love learning new things. It’s a win-win really.

I started Before I Fall because as you could guess from the above, it’s part of the segment. The movie also premiered yesterday. I was hoping to finish the book before the movie came out but it’s okay. I’ve got about a week to finish it. And I need to finish this one review book and then I’ll divert all my attention to Before I Fall. I also started a new review notebook. As I’m reading, instead of adding sticky tabs to my book, I write my thoughts in the notebook. This works better as sometimes I forget to mark off pages and reviews can get a bit…difficult. A review: Crying Over Spilt Light by George Saoulidis. See here.

MEFCC (Middle East Film and Comic Convention) is in less than a month, 3 weeks to be exact and I’m not going this year. I’ve gone every year for the past three years and I’ve decided not to go this year because I didn’t financially plan for it and I guess I just want a new experience where Comic Con is concerned. I’m not too bummed about it so we’re good. Also about things that I didn’t financially plan for…LORD OF SHADOWS AND HOW TO BE A BAWSE! Well, I planned but that plan was thrown into the gutter- relating to the acceptance thing- and now I might not get either book as it releases. This sucks because I’ve been looking forward to those since the announcements but once again, I should accept that this is the way it is and I shouldn’t make a mountain out of a molehill.

Holy shucks this post is long. This all went on this week yea, nothing happened last week that’s why I didn’t post anything. Wow, it’s almost as if I have an interesting life. Guys! A good thing happened yesterday. So our local supermarket/mart thing had copies of Fantastic Beasts the screenplay and I wanted to price check it just in case I want to buy it-it was too expensive but that’s unimportant now- I found An Illustrated History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld by Cassandra Clare and Cassandra Jean. I recently decided that I need this book in my possession because reasons and I’ve been looking for it allover. This market thing has it! I was so happy. Imagine me squealing in the middle of the aisle, slowly losing my mind. My sister said it would make a good coffee table book. *Scoffs* coffee table book. No way. This baby is being displayed on the shelves with lights and a huge banner marking it’s importance.

I think that’s about it for now. Emphasis on the ‘for now’ part. Oh yea! I finally got the white sneakers I wanted- kinda, it’ll do.
